It’s been the tradition of smartphone manufacturers to launch their respective flagship in fall, most notably in the month of September and October, just in time for the forthcoming holiday season. After IFA in Berlin, Galaxy Note 9 and Apple’s iPhone XS, XS Max and XR launches just recent month, we’re about to approach several major releases this month including Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, a new mystery device from Samsung, and more. So, let’s take a closer look at every smartphone releases for this month.
GOOGLE PIXEL 3, PIXEL 3 XL – October 9th, NYC & PARIS
Obviously, one of the smartphone releases the press and media are looking forward to in October is the Google’s annual hardware refresh launch event. On Oct. 9th, Google will officially launch the third-generation Pixels – the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The Pixel 3 and Picel 3 XL, mos especially the larger one, have been heavily-leaked in the past several weeks. However, some are claiming that those leaks were orchestrated by the search engine giant to hide the true and overall design identity of the Pixel 3 XL.
The Mountain View-based tech company could also be announcing a refresh Pixelbook, new Home smart speakers, an Assistant Smart Display, new iterations of Pixel Buds, and even an updated Chromecast to support the latest technology.
As for Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL release date and prices as well as preorder schedule, the forthcoming Made by Google smartphones are rumored to go on sale a couple of weeks after the launch and preorders starts a week after the announcement in NYC and Paris. The prices of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are expected to stay the same as to the previous generation.

HUAWEI MATE 20 & MATE 20 PRO – October 16th, LONDON
Huawei has formally introduced its next-generation silicon, the new 7-nanometer Kirin 980 SoC, at IFA in August. And by doing so also confirmed the Chinese company will be holding a special event to launch the new Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. That press conference will take on October 16th and there’s a bunch of things to look forward to.
The launch event will officially unveil the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro as the first devices to be powered by Kirin 980 SoC processor. Both Huawei and Apple worked with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to develop and manufacture their own high-powered chipset, which is why the their 7nm chip-powered flagships are launching so close to each other.
The new Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are widely anticipated to release with a new front-panel designs featuring a “waterdrop” notch. Just like the P20 series, Huwawei’s Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will be equipped with triple-lens camera system on the back. Additionally, both upcoming devices also packs wireless charging and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
SAMSUNG’S MYSTERY GALAXY DEVICE – October 11th
Samsung announced recently that it would be hosting “A Galaxy Event” on October 11th.
It’s unclear exactly what the South Korean tech titan has in store for this launch. Some expect that the big launch could be the company’s long-awaited Samsung’s foldable smartphone thanks to a quote from the the company’s CEO. The Galaxy X or Galaxy F are the rumored name for Samsung’s forthcoming folding handset.
“Samsung’s newest Galaxy device is bringing more ways to express yourself than before,” per Samsung blog post. “Capture the fun with Samsung as the company celebrates the launch of the new device with A Galaxy Event on October 11, 2018,” the blog post added.
XIAOMI MI MIX 3 – (DATE TBA)
A couple of months ago, Xiaomi president Lin Bin posted the first official photo of the Mi Mix 3, which is also a all-screen and bezel-less flagship smartphone. The Mi Mix 3 also feature a hidden sliding camera setup similar to the Oppo Find X, but it can be accessed manually by sliding the back upwards to reveal the front-facing camera setup. Xiaomi said that it is targeting an October 2018 release date for the Mi Mix 3.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 features Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6- or 8GB of RAM and 64-, 128- or 256GB ROM configurations. It will also comes with a dual-lens AI camera on the back, Qi wireless charging support and a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ 18:9 screen display and a 5G mobile connectivity.

LG V40 THINQ- October 3rd, NYC & SEOUL
One of the first big events expected this month is from the South Korean Electronics. LG has confirmed a press conference event on October 3rd to announce its next major hardware release.
The LG V40 ThinQ will be launched at two event locations in NYC and Seoul (October 4th local time) simultaneously. The smartphone is highly anticipated to further trim down the bezels from its predecessor, but also to introduce a notch on the topmost area of OLED display.
ONEPLUS 6T – (DATE TBA)
OnePlus has a release pattern of launching new device twice per year but the date of the second announcement this year has yet to be confirmed. OnePlus has already released some official details about the forthcoming handset. According to the teaser, the a release date of OnePlus 6T could fall on October 17.
The OnePlus 6T is not going to be a radical redesign from the OnePlus 6, but it is reported to include a significant major upgrades on the internal and other components. Additionally, it will also get a new notch design, an in-display fingerprint reader, and the farewell of the conventional headphone jack port.
