HMD Global Oy’s launch event that was originally planned for December 6 in India, will essentially take place on December 10. After a a relentless period of leaks, rumors and speculations, the Finnish mobile phone company finally wrapped up all the rumors, with new press invites for the launch event. The main star of HMD’s event will probably the Nokia 8.1, a re-branded Nokia X7 catered for the global markets.

Today HMD Global — who has the exclusive rights to the Nokia brand for mobile phones through a licensing agreement — took the wraps off its Nokia 7.1. On December 5th, HMD is anticipated to launch not just a single smartphone, but three new smartphones in Dubai, UAE.

While the previous Nokia 8 and 8 Sirocco are smartphones under the flagship category, the Nokia 8.1 will equip with a higher mid-range specs. There’s a possibility that HMD Global is reconstructing its line, by downgrading its former flagship series – Nokia 8 – to the higher mid-range category, and introduce a new flagship line with the Nokia 9 series.

The Nokia 8.1 features a 6.18-inch nothed screen display with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The Nokia 8.1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM.

It will also feature dual-lens rear-facing camera setup with a 12MP+13MP sensors, a 20MP selfie shooter and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. While the original Nokia X7 shipped with an Android 8.1 Oreo, the Nokia 8.1 will come up with the Android 9 Pie pre-installed out of the box, and of course, the Android One engraving on the back panel.
