A new design of flagship smartphones is gradually soaring. The holy grail in smartphone industry next year is to completely ditch the notch and maximize the front panel to a nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio. However, smartphone manufacturers can’t entirely oust the front-facing camera, earpiece and other key sensors, which has now becomes a hindrance. This is the logic why the notched display has become so mainstream this year as a happy medium. The notch remains a middle ground, which is why some OEMs have been considering towards unorthodox ways to dump it to the grave.
The eventual farewell of the notch has been addressed in a number of smartphones earlier this year implementing a popup or slide-up front-facing camera system. The Vivo NEX was the first flagship smartphone to attain this design for the selfie snapper, and it was followed by its sister company OPPO with the Find X. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and the Honor Magic 2 are two impeding flagships that have been confirmed to come up with a manual slider design.
Huawei’s sub-brand Honor first teased the Magic 2 back at IFA Berlin. Honor revealed that the handset would be powered by the Huawei’s in-house HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC processor, just like the recently launched Mate 20 series.
The Honor Magic 2 will have a manual slider design, which is dubbed as Magic Slide. The smartphone will debut in China on Halloween, October 31st alongside the Honor Watch. Now, the Honor Magic 2 has been given a green light China’s TENAA telecommunication authority, revealing its specs sheet.
According to TENNA listing, the Honor Magic 2 will feature a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display, and will be powered by the Kirin 980 chipset. Moreover, the Honor Magic 2 will equip with 8GB worth of RAM, and it will run Google’s latest mobile operating system Android Pie topped with EMUI 9.0 skin. The device will have triple-lens rear-facing camera setup: 16MP + 24MP + 16MP. On the front end, the handset features a 16MP selfie snapper and two TOF lenses for face unlock.
