Vivo has launched its highly anticipated Nex flagship smartphone nearly a couple weeks ago. Vivo Nex is a truly bezel-less all-screen smartphone but in order for the Chinese smartphone manufacturer to achieve that high screen-to-body ratio, the BBK Electronics’ subsidiary needed to a new way to house the front-facing camera and its answer is to integrate a pop-up selfie snapper.
Vivo managed to attain 91 percent screen-to-body ratio on the Nex. As the phone features an innovative components, its retail price is not cheap in comparison to the competition in the market, but it still managed to sell out.
The Vivo Nex ships with two storage models, both comes with 8GB of RAM, the 128GB and 256GB sells for $692 and $769 USD, respectively. The smartphone has officially become available on the Vivo’s store online on June 23 and it only took 4 hours for the device to sell out in China.
However, the Nex is not the only bezel-less all-screen premium flagship smartphone competing to win the consumers’ money, because OPPO also previously launched the Find X smartphone with a higher screen-to-body ratio at 93.8 percent and a pop-up camera system on-board.
The premium retail price of the Vivo NEX did not affect its pre-sale. After the release of of the mobile device on June 12, a number of retail stores including Jingdong, Suning, and Tmall have all kicked off their pre-sale. The handset has began shipping on Saturday, June 23.
Chinese phone makers do not usually get a lot of applaud from international media, most especially for the design of their products but things are evolving drastically which evidently means that bigger smartphone OEMs like Samsung, Apple, Google, Asus, Huawei and LG will have to take note of this.
The commend of both the Vivo NEX and OPPO Find X has also put pressure on other manufacturers in the industry to make a leap on their design, which we believe they will address soon. — The Centrio News
