While Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone, Mi Mix 3, was formally unveiled in China back in October, we might have to patiently wait a little bit longer for the international version to arrive in other key markets. Just like the Mi Mix 2S, the Mi Mix 3 ships with a ceramic model, but that’s where the resemblances wraps up.
Like many other smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi hid the front camera setup and earpiece speaker under the display panel that will only reveal when you slide up the back panel. But unlike other Chinese OEMs, the Mi Mix 3 is equipped with magnetic mechanical slider instead of a motorized mechanism, which means it has lesser chances that it might clinker. The Mi Mix 3 is also an instant throwback to the late 2000s from the phones like Nokia 7650 and N95.
The dual-lens front facing selfie snapper — 24MP primary and 2MP secondary sensors — housed underneath the display panel. The back of the handset features a 12MP+12MP camera lenses.
Under the hood, the Mi Mix 3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with up to 10GB of RAM and 256GB of on-board storage. Since its a new smartphone, the Mi Mix 3 runs on Android 9.0 Pie topped with MIUI 10 skin.
During the Mi Mix 3 launch event in China, Xiaomi revealed that it will be among the world’s first 5G mobile connectivity-capable handset phone. However, the 5G model hasn’t been hit the shelves just yet and is still in testing phase.
Xiaomi President Lin Bin recently took to Weibo and posted the Mi Mix 3 5G version. The image also has the Android Pie icon displayed in the top left corner, adding weight on our anticipations of an Android Pie 9.0 software update.
A photo published back in September by the company brass gave us a sneak preview into the mobile data speeds the Mi Mix 3 5G can offer.
The picture was re-posted by Donovan Sung, Xiaomi’s Director of Product Management on Twitter, and he said that they have successfully tested the 5G data connections on Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.
“We can’t wait for the official rollout of 5G next year!…. 5G download speeds are more than 10X faster than 4G speeds. What’s everyone looking forward to the most?”
The 5G-enabled model of the Mi Mix 3 is expected to make its public debut in the first quarter of 2019. That said, we can expect the first 5G smartphone sometime in the first three months next year and not later than March. The 5G ready markets like European region is expected to get the Mi Mix 3 first. A number of strategic locations in Asia will receive the Mi Mix 3 5G model later.
